Global Voices Partners With The Balochistan Point

Global Voices has launched a new partnership with Balochistan Point, an English language news site that writes under-reported stories from Pakistan's south-western province.

The Balochistan Point initiated in 2010 to highlight important news from an area which Pakistan's national online, broadcast and print media, largely ignores.

For Pakistan's Struggling National Airline, Balochistan Comes Last

Like thousands of other Pakistanis, Sajid Baloch works as a construction worker in Dubai. Every six months he visits his family in Quetta, Balochistan province's capital and largest city.

Sajid used to fly directly to his hometown from Dubai on the national carrier Pakistan International Airlines (PIA). Life was easy for him back then.

When he visited Pakistan in April this year, Sajid had to fly an extra hour and a half covering the 680 kilometers between Karachi, Pakistan's largest city, and Quetta. PIA had closed down all of its Quetta-Dubai flights.

How a Bus Stop Row is Crippling Public Transport in Balochistan's Capital

Dr. Malik Baloch is the Chief Minister of Balochistan, Pakistan's largest, least populated and poorest province. Baloch's recent decision to move all bus stops in the city of Quetta to Hazar Gunji, a suburb about 30 kilometers (almost 20 miles) away, has enraged many people and prompted drivers to boycott public transit.
